70's Fashion Displaying my Running Legs

1. What made you start running?  I was overweight.  I signed up for a 4km fun run.
I was excited to be able to average 6:00min/km on that ‘hilly’ run from Perry Lakes
along Oceania Drive to the ‘surf’ at City Beach in Perth.  I was once 25km heavier than I am now.
I don’t have many photos because that was before mobile phones had cameras and I’ve moved
house and I don’t know where the photo albums are.

2. How did you become a member of RCR? I ran the Comrades Down Run in 2012 when I lived in Perth.
I met Digger he told me to let him know when I got to Brisbane when I was preparing for the Up Run.
One of my first sessions was when we had breakfast in the carpark afterwards.
I’ve been coming every since.

3. How long have you been a member?

I joined in 2013.

4. What sessions or events do you attend as a River City Runner?

Saturday mornings at QSAC most of the time, Sunday mornings from Dock Street when
I’m preparing for a long flat run or long group trail runs if they are on offer.
If I can get there Wednesday Night Hilly Hump Day Walk. I’m at QSAC on Tuesday and
Thursday but I either have my own hard track session or I am there with Cale who is
training with Coach Bill.

5. Where were you born?

Subiaco (Perth, Western Australia)

6. Running Nickname or Alias?

Swinger from days running trails in the Perth Hills but Pat has given me JOGO.

7. Something surprising most people won’t know about you?

I can play the flute and I was in the School Band and went to Band Camp.  I can drive a forklift.
I went to boarding school in Regional Western Australia.  I’m a country girl at heart.

8. Favourite place to run?
Practically anywhere, Trails, Brisbane River and Toohey Forest, you can make it long there are
heaps of single trail and numerous different hills for hill repeat sessions.
It’s also easy to park and run from the Davies Bakery where a coffee and a Cinnamon Scroll
is a real treat after any session.
When I run there at night with friends we have heard and then seen Koala’s growling.

8. Big goals you have over the next 12 months?

A 24 hour result I can be proud of after Breast Cancer.

Saturdays Suspects at Little Green Cafe
Our weekly sessions continue as normal with some minor adjustments to starting times to make the
most of the cool in the early morning.
Sunday morning runs from Dock Street will start at 5:30am.
All welcome this is a social run where pace is not important and time on the feet the aim as well
as a general chat and when it’s warm or HOT there is the option of a stop at the pools at Streets
Beach in Southbank.
Some jump in shoes and all. Just remember to not jump in with your phone and car key if it’s
not waterproof!

We’ve been lucky to have some rainy and muddy runs in the Toohey Forest.
Hopefully the rain will bless us again soon. It has taken me a few weeks but I finally spotted
with my own eyes the fairy door in a tree on Mt Gravatt.
If you have a photo can you please share on our page for bragging rights let’s see how many
people have noticed it!
