A new beginning for the newsletter.......

Hi River City Runners,

I'm trying a new format for the newsletter which is this blog style which can be published as often as new information or photos become available, rather than only putting out new content once a month via email.

Incoming President's Report - Jodie Oborne

“To promote a healthy lifestyle by providing people the opportunity to run with like-minded people.”

The River City Runners membership has grown significantly in the past few years.  What I love about this club is that it truly does provide people from all walks of life with the opportunity to run or walk with like minded people.  It brings people together who might otherwise not interact or engage.  When we are in our running gear we are just another member striving to lead a healthy lifestyle.  It provides the opportunity for people to engage with others in many settings whether it be at the track on the roads and paths around Brisbane or the trails.

Tim and I joined River City Runners in 2013 when we moved to Brisbane from Perth.  I was preparing for my second Comrades, but one of my first highlights of the club run was breakfast in the car park.  It rained that day too.  In fact the first two weeks we were in Brisbane it rained a little everyday and I remember reading the newsletter then compiled by Trish Griffin that perhaps we were all getting a little sick of wet shoes.  Let’s hope we have some of that again soon.

Contained within our club is a wealth of knowledge and experience on running. I urge you to draw on that experience and to share your knowledge.

Because I love numbers and data I would like to share with you some statistics:
The number of male versus female members is evenly split and that’s pretty evident at all of our sessions.  The suburbs that feature most amongst members place of residence are Holland Park, Mansfield, Salisbury, Carindale and Wishart, the average age of our members is 46 with the youngest at 14 and oldest 73.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Annual General Meeting on Saturday the 21st September.  Our run and meeting was well attended and the breakfast in the car park popped up just like old times.  Many thanks to Don and Trish for their ongoing contribution and everyone else that assisted in setting up and packing up.

It was amazing to have a run in the rain and true to form this did not dampen anyone’s spirits.

Thank you to outgoing President Amanda Neil who has done a lot behind the scenes and the club has certainly evolved and grown under her leadership.  I have big shoes to fill and I am finding it quite daunting.  Thank you also to Jodie Nichols, outgoing Secretary and Neil Tincknell, outgoing Treasurer also for your contribution in the past.

For now it is business as usual you can count on the current sessions and structures to remain.  One variation is a slight increase in Annual Membership Fees now set at $42 per person and $32 concession.  Our membership year commences on the 1st October.  You can renew your membership now by clicking here.

The incoming committee strive to continue the legacy the club was founded on and to develop it for the benefit of every member.

Incoming Committee

President - Jodie Oborne
Secretary – Heidi Gould
Treasurer – Chris Batt

Other important roles filled at the meeting but which are flexible, all contributors are valued and welcome.

Social Coordinators – Chris Batt, Jodie Davis, Liz Russell
Newsletter – Rob Martin
Teams Coordinator – Pat Coglan, Na Ho

Thank you to these members who have stepped forward and volunteered their time to fulfil these very important roles.  While we all compete from time to time the clubs core value is to promote a healthy lifestyle and my aim is to provide every member with the opportunity.  While our name suggests we are runners there are always ‘walkers’ whether they simply choose to walk, are injured, recovering from a big event or the partner of a runner everyone is welcome.
